Fortunate the school that has Jonathon Kemnitzer, principal of KEM STUDIO, among its parents. His firm developed the design for this unique playground pro bono, making sure that the forms could be constructed by volunteers. “Timber framing was designed to be made in small repeatable modules and then assembled on the concrete footings”, and the setting incorporates found and recycled objects as well as donated materials.
These are playground elements turned chic with strong geometries and carefully assembled decking as cladding. The beautifully wide slide structure, which covers a passage big enough to be a ‘house’, not just a tunnel, was fabricated pro bono by A. Zahner Company, and was installed by Centric Projects.”
