Vintage Elephant Playground Slides, Leipzig and Mecklenberg Germany

In trying to find more information about the Japanese slide, I came across these two vintage elephants, one in Leipzig and one in Mecklenberg.  The obvious suitability of an elephant’s trunk for a slide makes this one of the most popular play animalias…giving rise to interpretations ranging from the blocky modernity of the Mecklenberg example to the cartoony friendliness of the Leipzig piece.  Regardless, they are generally beloved.   Do you know of a playground elephant, particularly a vintage one?  Tell me in the comments…

Nice post! I love the elephant slides!

When I grew up there was an Elephant climber / slide next to the apartment were my grandmother lived. (The Netherlands) Unfortunately I don’t have any pictures of it, but it looked a lot like this one:

Also a very nice Elephant slide I found on Flickr. Made by Miracle Recreations (USA):

And you probably also stumbled on this one from Singapore:

And last but not least a nice Vietnam swimming pool Elephant slide:
